For Ihsan Bilal, music has always been a passion. The Moreno Valley, California native first expressed her musical talent at the age of six. She wrote songs and performed them with her four younger siblings. They were often called the modern day “Jackson 5.” She also performed several shows with her father – keyboardist Lyndon Bilal.

Over the years, Ihsan and her family won many talent shows. She eventually branched out and started an all girl group in when she was in 7th grade and continued to impress audiences with her talent and style.

In 1999, Ihsan was accepted into the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. While there, she won awards as best vocalist and most improved student; wrote, arranged, and composed her senior class song; and participated in the first ever jazz workshop course, show choir, gospel choir, all-school choir, and opera workshop where she played the lead role in Madame Butterfly.

During her senior year, Ihsan was accepted to the Berklee College of Music but she declined to pursue her music career. At age 19, Ihsan joined the D.C. based “Black Alley Band.” They opened up for Kanye West, Jadakiss, Lissen Band and many other local artists.

Ihsan is currently working on her solo debut album “BiG red BoX” due for release later in 2010. Visit her website  for more information.

“Some Kinda Love “by Maiko Watson | Upload Music

“Some Kinda Love” by Maiko Watson (R&B/Soul)

Maiko Watson

Maiko Watson. In 2001, Maiko Watson beat out thousands of women to become a member of Sugar Jones, a girl group spawned from reality TV show Popstars. Sugar Jones’ self-titled debut album was certified Platinum, had two top ten singles on the Canadian Charts, was nominated for and received various notable awards, touring nationally and the U.K. extensively. Following Sugar Jones’ success, Maiko spent the next few years learning to play guitar, bass, keys, how to multi-track, and began writing and arranging her own music.

“I learned so much about recording and arranging in the making of this album. It’s not an easy process, doing everything yourself because it’s very easy to lose perspective at times.”

Since then, Maiko has toured throughout Canada, the U.S. and Europe, performing alongside acts such as Sheryl Crow, Beyonce, Maroon 5, Jully Black, and K-OS, and has appeared on Jay Leno, Regis and Kelly, the Today Show, and CNN. She starred in the hit musical Smokey Joe’s Cafe, performed alongside jazz guru Ron Paley, and nationally acclaimed funk band Moses Mayes, as well as a collaboration on Grand Analog’s latest top ten album, Metropolis Is Burning.

Upbeat track that talks about early adopters in the tech sphere, calling some out by name. Also shouts out a few web 2.0 / social media apps.

Jesus It’s U | Upload Music

Jesus It’s U” is now available on iTunes.

Sonny Rivera was born in Spanish Harlem and raised in Bronx, NY by a family that would sing and play all the time. He initially dreamed of becoming a famous R&B singer, but his plans changed when Jesus Christ came into his life when he was 20 years old. He’s been singing for Him ever since.

Rivera currently lead praise and worship at New Life Ministries and he’s finishing his first solo recording project. His mission is not just to sing and entertain to gain the accolades of men, but rather to become transparent and to sing to the point where people are healed in their bodies, loosed from bondage and set free. He wants to use his talent to help bring people closer to God.

“The Art of You” by Sy Smith from Soul Portrait on Vimeo.

Sy Smith has been called “the hardest working woman in show business!” With 3 CDs, 1 EP, and 1 DVD released independently, she is the driving force behind the underground soul scene in Los Angeles. She is known widely as the singer who duets with Al Green on the “Soul Food” show and for her TV work as a backing vocalist on American Idol. Sy has also written songs for Macy Gray, Carlos Santana, Ronny Jordan, Brand New Heavies, Gerald Albright and Mya among others. She has toured with Whitney Houston, Usher, Meshell Ndegeocello and currently Chris Botti. But what Sy truly loves to do is attack the stage with her feminine fervor and bring the house down with her style of funk. Born in NY and raised in DC/MD, Sy shows off her knowledge of jazz, go-go, with a tinge of classical training without disturbing the groove!
