“My Hair. My Tears….Mama’s Comb”
Every Black woman knows the experience of bearing the pain of mama’s comb to produce a masterpiece. My daughter has entered that elite society.

Mary Brown. Art has been a part of my life since I was old enough to hold a pencil. Then I received my first camera when I was nine-years-old. It just seemed so natural for my love of art to transfer to the art of photography. After many years as a graphic designer/art director, I’ve full circle, merging graphic arts with the photography. I have always believed the statement, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and I try to tell a little bit of the story with every photo I take. For 2010, I plan to challenge myself by participating in a 365 challenge—letting the year unfold with a photo a day.
I currently reside in Newark, NJ and more of my work can be seen at Mary Brown Photography and on my Flickr page.

E. Payne is a Man, a Dad and a Husband. He’s a writer, a poet and an amateur photographer. He blogs about his life and times with his family at Makes Me Wanna Holler. He’s a Chicago son, but he’s been living in a New York State of mind for the last fifteen years.
Not classically trained in any of the above, the love and pursuit of art is in his DNA. He lives by the following statement, quoted from his uncle, John Payne, a celebrated artist who’s career spanned 4 decades before his passing in 2004:
“The mind hungers. People need art, just like they need the sun. Without art, the world would be an ugly, gray place…”
